GRAMMY Winners Cedric Gervais and Nile Rodgers Reimagine Sister Sledge’s Classic “We Are Family”

GRAMMY-winning artists Cedric Gervais and Rock and Roll & Songwriters Hall of Famer Nile Rodgers have joined forces to present a fresh, modern rendition of Sister Sledge’s iconic anthem, “We Are Family.” Originally written and produced by Rodgers alongside his CHIC Organization partner Bernard Edwards in 1979, this new release on Armada Music infuses the timeless classic with a contemporary twist.

Blending Cedric’s signature big-room house elements with Nile’s unmistakable funk-driven grooves, the reimagined track delivers a dancefloor-ready experience that pays homage to the original while bringing a cutting-edge sound. Pulsating basslines, shimmering synths, and Rodgers’ masterful instrumentals elevate the chorus, making it both nostalgic and innovative. The result is a powerful tribute and an anthem for today’s global audience.

Following Cedric’s summer hit “Switch” with David Guetta, “We Are Family” continues to capture the essence of both artists’ styles—creating an irresistible fusion of soulful funk and house music. This marks their second collaboration reinterpreting a classic hit, following the successful release of “Everybody Dance” with Franklin in 2020.

Reflecting on the experience, Cedric Gervais shared:
“Four years ago, Franklin, Nile Rodgers, and I recreated the single ‘Everybody Dance.’ We had such a great time with it, so when the opportunity to reimagine ‘We Are Family’ came up, we jumped at the chance. We recorded it at NightBird Studios in Los Angeles, and Nile’s passion for music and the stories he shared during the session were truly inspiring. This song has such a positive, unifying message, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

Nile Rodgers added:
“With each passing year, the message of ‘We Are Family’ grows more powerful. Black, white, gay, straight, rich, poor, Christian, Muslim—we are all family. Reimagining this song at Cedric’s request, at a time when the world needs hope, is truly special. Its purpose is to spread some joy and unity.”
